SERVICES
Mastering is the key link in the supply chain of your music. It is the point where a record stops being an idea living in the studio and starts becoming something ready to exist in the real world.
Sometimes that means careful technical work. Sometimes it means knowing not to interfere with something that is already saying what it needs to say. Either way, the job is making the right call at the point where creativity becomes commodity.
In practice, that means making sure your record is ready for release, technically solid, and presented in its strongest light.
STEREO MASTERING
Stem mastering opens the record up a little further, giving me access to the main sounds of the mix without pulling it apart completely. It keeps the feel and balance of the original intact, while giving more room to deal with details that may be stopping the track from landing the way it should.
That might mean bringing more control to the bass, easing harshness in the cymbals, or lifting a vocal without altering the music. It is not always necessary, but when a stereo master can only go so far, stem mastering can make a real difference.
STEM MASTERING
Mixing is where the emotional shape of a record is really made. When a mix is doing its job properly, the listener is not thinking about levels, frequencies or whether something is cutting through enough. They are just in the music, because every sound is doing what it needs to do and the song is coming across the way it should.
Mastering matters but the overall weight, depth and impact of a record are built in the mix. That includes loudness. The stronger the mix, the further a record can usually go in mastering without losing the thing that made it exciting in the first place.
